How Fixed Term Bonds Differ From Your Average Savings Account

July 09, 2008 : Posted by: admin : Category: Finance : Comments (0) : Add Comment

Fixed Term accounts differ from typical savings accounts. To begin with, they are more of an investment. Most people associate an investment as a form of gambling, as things do not always go as planned so there is the potential to lose an investment.

However, Fixed Term Bonds are extremely safe investments, as long as you stick to banks registered with the Financial Services Authority (FSA) and make sure you do not invest more than 50,000 in any one account to ensure you are fully covered if your bank were to collapse. For a list of which banks are covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme see our List of Banks by Institution.

Job Losses Tell Us Its Going To Get Worse

May 31, 2008 : Posted by: admin : Category: Finance : Comments (0) : Add Comment

There is one overriding message from the jobs bloodbath of this week.

That is: this slowdown is going to be long, hard and tough and things are going to worsen.

Indeed US brokers Merrill Lynch now says it thinks estimates for 2009 profits for US companies are still too generous, that earnings are going to be lower.

Brokers already believe that December 2008 quarter earnings will be down 28%, so Merrill Lynch's warning should be seen as a pointer to the future.

Anyone thinking it's going to be a quick exit/rebound later this year, or even in 2010, had better think again.

Asset Values To Be Cut

May 28, 2008 : Posted by: admin : Category: Finance : Comments (0) : Add Comment

The Australian Financial Review had a front page story yesterday headlined "Dividends hit as asset values plunge",

It started "Shareholder dividends will come under increased pressure this reporting season as large companies are forced to write-off billions of dollars in goodwill built up over a decade-long merger acquisitions boom". (We won't force you to pay for the rest of the story at the AFR.com website.)

That opening paragraph should be a warning signal to readers about the rest of the story.

Why should a write-down in the value of a non-cash asset such as goodwill produce a fall in dividends?

Chicken Or The Egg? Is It Save Jobs Or Create Jobs?

All of sudden, everything I read in this new economic stimulus plan is about helping to create or SAVE 3.5 million jobs, when, in fact, this new federal stimulus plan was supposed to actually CREATE up to 4 million jobs. This is a wakeup call and it is time for you, the American public, to get informed, stand up and speak your mind. Use the Internet to send emails to your senators and congressman. With todays speed of transparency, there is no reason that we, the American people, cant find out exactly what is going on in our government in a moments notice.

As the US moves towards passing an economic stimulus package and reshaping its banking bailout and assistance, there's bad news from Asia that should cause tremors here.

That has already shaken currency markets in Asia and Europe after it was reported by the leading Japanese business paper, the Nikkei.

The move was then confirmed by this report on Bloomberg
